Current Research Topics

The following areas of research either partially or fully funded by Iowa Space Grant Consortium. Please click any of the following topics to see details.

  • Water quality monitoring
  • Wetland mapping and Monitoring
  • Heat loss detection using thermal imageries
  • Tree Species identification using LIDAR and Hyperspectral images
  • West Nile Virus habitat analysis using remote sensing and GIS data

1. Water Quality Monitoring

The goal of the proposed research is to explore whether the combination of hyperspectral remote sensing, ground based spectroradiometry, GIS, and water sampling and analysis can simplify and accelerate the protocol for assessing water quality with an acceptable degree of accuracy.

2. Wetland Mapping and Modeling
  1. Investigate the potential use of 1 m CIR (2002) photos and hybrid data (hyperspectral and traditional multi-spectral) in wetland delineation. .

  2. Monitor wetland dynamics using landscape structure metrics from 1983 NWI data and a current 2002 map that will be created from the first and second objectives.
